A Great Idea Hit's San Pedro..
The San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade was brought to Ambergris Caye when Jan Brown moved to
Belize from Clear Lake Area of Houston, Texas. Ms. Brown left her job at the Clear Lake Area
Chamber of Commerce and brought this delightful idea with her in 2004. The CLACC is the producer
of the longest held (47 years in 2008) and longest boat parade (limited to 150 boats because of
time) in the US. Ms. Brown thought it was a natural for the fun loving and creative Sanpedranos
to start their own parade. The idea was presented to an enthusiastic committee in 2006 and the rest is history.
The committee has remained independent from any organization. Thus, they can invite other organizations to help
produce the event and make it a win, win situation for everyone. The tireless efforts of the volunteers has made
the Boat Parade a much anticipated event to start the holidays.
Jan reports the event in Clear Lake TX draws over 100,000 people to watch the water spectacular. It is estimated
that San Pedro drew over 6,000 people to the shoreline in 2007 with a Sunday event. At the suggestion of a prominent
citizen of San Pedro and the encouragement of the Belize Tourism Board, it has been set for the first Saturday in
December now and will draw many more people and boats from all over Belize.
Sponsorships allow this event to be FREE to the public, as well as FREE for boaters to enter. The brightly
decorated, imaginative boats of all sizes and shapes will compete for trophies and prize money!
Please join the fun December 4th and feel the holiday spirit in all of us.
"A wonderful opportunity for sponsors and guests! Join us at the 6th Annual San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade."
